Seminole Patchwork (Chevron style)Sweatshirt Jacket

 

Supplies:

*6 fabrics ¼ yard each- choose colors and prints that harmonize and have a variety of values-light, medium and dark

Confused about value—Xerox your fabric in black and white

*Zipper- separating/jacket style 20-22 inches in length the color of the sweatshirt

*thread either invisible or thread to harmonize with the sweatshirt for stitching the patchwork to the sweatshirt

*thread for piecing

*Basic sewing supplies

*Sewing machine, extra needles, bobbin and manual

*Fabric for label and pigma pen

*rotary cutter, mat and ruler

*tracing paper or muslin for making jacket front pattern

*pen or pencil

*sweatshirt-slightly larger than normally worn

 

Wash and dry the sweatshirt to minimize shrinkage later.  Wash, dry, and iron fabrics. 

 

Cut 1 ½ inch strips from the fabrics start with 4 strips from each fabric.  Separate the strips into 2 identical piles.

Several bobbins of colored thread to match thread used in the machine for stitching

Iron and parchment paper or a Teflon sheet

Fabric scissors

Ruler & rotary cutter
