Raw edge pieced Abstract Design Vest Supply List
Vest pattern Vogue 8000 view B,or other vest pattern with or without collar. A pattern without princess seams and darts is the easiest to make. Purchase the closest size to your bust measurement.
Muslin-same fabric amount as needed for the vest. A mock up will be made and fitted before cutting the fabric. This may be done before the class. Contrasting thread for basting.
Vest fabric—cotton various types of prints and textures. Scraps are fine; bring plenty. The key to the vest fabric creation is color and value. So think complementary colors: example purple and blue; light, dark and medium value colors. Scraps equal to 2 yards of fabric. If you are using fat quarters purchase 8-10. Add two or three black and whites for zing.
Thread to contrast. This is a great project for variegated threads.
Interfacing-lightweight pellon, touch of gold or French fuse. 1-yard for the collar; it is cut length wise, but interfacing can be pieced, so less can be used.. If the pattern chosen does not have a collar interfacing is still needed for the vest front edge.
Lining fabric-same amount purchased for vest. I like polyester the best, it helps the vest slips on and off easier.
Rotary cutter can be helpful.
Basic Sewing supplies: pins, seam ripper, scissors, machine needles, hand sewing needles, etc.
Small box of mixed beads, beading needle, nymo or other beading thread, thimble, if you wish to embellish. Coats and Clark button thread also works for beading as does dental floss.
Pencil, paper
Fabric for label, pigma pen
Bag lunch and drink, no refrigeration is available.
Sewing machine in good working order with a new needle, foot for zig zag, machine manual, extension cord. Featherweight machine may also be used for this project.
