Crinkled Taffeta Vest

SUPPLY LIST

Sewing Machine in good working order with new needle/ machine manual and an extension cord

 

Basic Sewing Supplies: remember pins and extra machine needles, scissors, seam ripper, etc.

 

Vest Pattern/rotary cutter ruler and mat

 

Muslin or any light colored fabric for a fitting mock-up, spool of contrasting thread, purchase same amount as vest fabric

 

Vest fabric taffeta 1 ½ yard.  Wet the taffeta and twist the fabric until it rolls back on itself.  Place it in a knee high stocking and dry in the dryer.  Leave the fabric in the stocking  and bring to class.

 

Thread to match lining and fabric

 

Fabric Interfacing—Touch of Gold or interfacing for sheer and lightweight fabrics approximately 1-1 ½  yard depending on the width of the interfacing

 

Several small containers of beads for decoration, beading needle and nymo bead thread or equivalent, thimble

 

Double needle 2.0/80

 

Two contrasting spools of thread

 

Iron and mat if not supplied

Vest Pattern:

Very simple pattern no darts or curved seams—purchase pattern according your bust measurements

Purchase the same amount of lining material as called for the vest. I like polyester lining.  It slides easy over another garment easily.

 

 Loops for vest:  options: bias made from one of the vest fabrics, black cording, elastic loops used for making ponytails.  You will find these in the hair supplies section of stores

 

2-3 buttons, either matching or unmatching.  The vest can also be worn without button and loops.  Your choice

 

Small container of mixed beads, beading needle, nymo or other beading thread, thimble
