A Simple Fabric Collage Landscape Quilt Supply lisr

Bring 1 or more personal photos or magazine picture of a landscape.  We will simplify the picture in class before beginning the quilt design

1-2 pieces of tracing paper, pencil, pen, paper scissors.

1yard of batik for quilt background.  Think landscape, sky, water, night, sunlight, etc.   Look at the picture you have chosen to develop an idea of the color of batik you would like.  Who says the sky must be blue?  Maybe you wish to make a modern art piece.  No two quilts will be alike in the class.  All work will be unique to its maker.

Scraps, fat quarters, quarter yards of fabric for the landscape elements, such as tree trunks, grass, small flowers, shrubs, tree leaves, flowering trees, park bench, etc.  Use your imagination when choosing the fabric.  There will also be some scraps of fabric available in the classroom.

Glue stick; be sure that it is a fresh one.  UHU stick is good, but not always easy to find.  So any non-toxic, washable, acid-free glue stick will be OK

Pins, sewing shears, small sharp scissors for cutting landscape elements

You may bring your sewing machine, but not mandatory—if you wish to practice the couching, stitching, thread painting etc.  Or if you design quickly, sewing on the landscape can begin.   Remember extra needles, extension cord, zigzag foot and bobbins.  I will demonstrate the new Bernina couching foot in class, in case some of you may be interested in seeing it in action.  Not necessary to purchase this for the class.

Clear Polyester monofilament thread

Threads to use for stitching the landscape elements, such as brown for tree trunks, green for leaves, etc.  Variegated threads work nicely.  If you are unsure what colors, don’t invest in more than 2-3 spools of thread.  I will bring some for the class.

Batting and backing will be discussed in the class.  Also documentation for the quilt will be shown---quilt labeling and hanging sleeve.

Optional: small container beads, choice whatever you like.  Nymo nylon thread or Silamide thread (white, black or gray) size 12 sharps needles, needle threader, thimble.  Seed beads are great for flower centers, flower shaped sequins for embellishment of trees, or flowers.  A seed bead is needed to attach each sequin.

These will be shown in class.  So you may want to wait to purchase.  Most of these things can be found at a craft store.
