Judy's Garden 36"w x 40"L

2008 Jan-March Judy's garden hung at the Pinnacle building in an exhibit "Art in the Workplace" sponsored by Quilters Unlimited and The Arts Council of Fairfax county. Judys Garden was accepted  in an exhibit in Dayton Ohio at the Aullwood Center and Farm. Their goal is to promote the protection of birds, other

wildlife and the habitats on which they depend. Aullwood offers both children and adults the opportunity

to experience and appreciate the world through experience-based education.  The exhibit is

June 14-August 10, 2008.

Judy's Garden was a photo that I took in my neighborhood last spring.  I started this quilt while I was taking an art quilt class from Judy House an art quilter.  While the class was in session Judy had a cancer relapse and died.  I am dedicating the quilt to the memory of Judy.  She was a mentor for me and helped me to gather confidence in my creations.  The quilt was started in a class with Joan Colvin.  I have documented all of the steps with photography.  The photos may be seen above.  The quilt was created on batting that already had the backing in place.  Each of the various pieces of fabric was attached with pins.  After the scene was finished, all  the fabric pieces were stitched to the batting and backing with clear thread.  Then began the thread embellishment.  Numerous colors of rayon and cotton thread were used to stitch details on the quilt top.

A portion of Judy's Garden appears on the postcard used to announce the event.
